Premier Luxury Home Construction Near You
Luxury home construction rewards a contractor who manages procurement, tolerance and sequencing properly. H&A My Design has done that for over 20 years as a licensed design-build general contractor with its own showroom and in-house project teams. Serving Southern California and the surrounding areas.

What Sets Luxury Home Construction Apart
Stone that has to book-match across a run. Cabinetry made for one specific wall. Glazing that arrives months after it is ordered. Trades working to finer margins than standard residential work allows. That standard is a planning and management problem long before it is a craftsmanship one.
Tolerance Is The Real Luxury
At this level the eye reads millimetres. Reveals must be consistent, cabinetry runs must be level across ten metres, and a stone mitre either lines up or it does not. Achieving that requires framing and substrate work far more accurate than code minimums.
Set The Standard Before Work Starts
Tolerances are agreed with trades in advance rather than argued about afterwards. Where a finish is critical we approve a benchmark or mock-up before the whole run is installed.
Protection Matters As Much As Installation
Completed floors, stone and joinery are covered and access is controlled while other trades finish around them. Most damage on high-end projects happens after the item is installed.
Procurement Drives The Programme
On a luxury home construction project the critical path often runs through a factory rather than the site. A late decision on glazing or cabinetry holds up everything behind it, so ordering is scheduled like any other trade activity.
- Long-lead items identified and ordered during design, not during framing
- Shop drawings for millwork, stone and glazing checked against site dimensions
- Delivery dates tracked as schedule items with real consequences
- Substitutions discussed openly rather than slipped in quietly
The Elements That Define Luxury Home Construction
Six areas that absorb the majority of a high-end budget and repay the attention they demand.
Custom Millwork & Cabinetry
Cabinetry, panelling and built-ins made for the room rather than adapted to it, with hardware chosen to match.
Premium Stone & Surfaces
Slab selection, veining layout, mitred edges and continuity between counter, splash and island.
Expert Glazing Packages
Large sliding and pivot systems needing structural planning, long lead times and precise openings.
Comfort & Climate Systems
Zoned HVAC, quiet ventilation, radiant heat and water treatment designed into the plan from the start.
Lighting & Home Automation
Layered lighting, discreet fixtures and control systems with infrastructure roughed in early.
Outdoor Living & Hardscape
Covered terraces, outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds and hardscape treated as part of the house.
How We Run Luxury Home Construction Projects
Fine finishes fail for ordinary reasons: late orders, poor sequencing, unprotected work. These are the controls that prevent it.
Procurement begins during design
Windows, doors, stone, appliances and specialist fixtures are ordered against the programme with delivery tracked weekly.
Shop drawings before fabrication
Millwork and glazing are drawn and checked against measured site dimensions so each piece fits the opening the first time.
Benchmarks and mock-ups
Where a finish is critical, the standard is agreed on a sample before the full installation proceeds.
Sequencing that protects finished work
Trades are ordered so completed areas are not reopened for work that should have happened earlier.
Designer and architect coordination
We integrate interior designers’ specifications into the construction set and the procurement schedule.
What Surprises First-Time Luxury Clients
Honest expectations make high-specification projects far more enjoyable to live through. These four come up on almost every job.
Decisions Cluster Very Early
Many finish decisions have to be made long before you can stand in the room they belong to. Showroom visits, samples and 3D studies exist to make that manageable rather than abstract.
Detail Costs Time, Not Just Money
Flush reveals, shadow gaps and continuous stone take more hours and permit less tolerance. They are worth choosing deliberately, in the places they will genuinely be noticed.
Higher Specification Usually Takes Longer
Fabrication and delivery of bespoke elements extend the programme, which is exactly why procurement planning begins during design rather than after permits are issued.
Planning Around It
We publish a schedule that shows which items are on the critical path, so you can see why a cabinetry decision in March affects a handover date in November.
Energy Rules Still Apply
Large glazing areas must be offset elsewhere in the envelope or systems to satisfy Title 24. Designing that in early protects the facade you actually want.

Luxury Home Construction Questions
What actually counts as a luxury build?
In practice it is defined by specification rather than size: custom millwork, high-end glazing and appliances, natural stone, integrated systems and finishes held to tighter tolerances than standard residential work.
Can you work with my interior designer?
Yes. We coordinate with interior designers regularly, integrating their drawings and specifications into the construction set and the procurement schedule.
How do you protect finished work on site?
Completed surfaces are covered, access is restricted and trade sequencing is planned so finished areas are not reopened. It is unglamorous and it is what keeps a luxury home construction project looking new at handover.
Are high-end appliances and fixtures included?
They are handled through allowances or direct specification, agreed in writing before the contract so the budget reflects what you actually intend to install.
Do you build in gated or hillside communities?
Yes. Those locations often add access restrictions, HOA review and additional geotechnical requirements, all of which we factor into the programme up front.
Which areas do you cover?
We deliver luxury home construction throughout Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Westlake, Pasadena, Glendale, Culver City, the South Bay, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County, Thousand Oaks, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Burbank, Granada Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda and the surrounding areas.

Specialist Trades In Luxury Home Construction
High-specification work depends on a small number of genuinely skilled trades and suppliers. Managing that relationship is a large part of what a luxury home construction contract is actually buying.
Booking Capacity, Not Just Price
The best stone fabricators, millwork shops and glazing installers are booked months ahead. Securing their capacity early matters more than shaving a few percent off a quotation.
Coordination Between Specialists
A stone fabricator templates against cabinetry that must already be installed to the millimetre. A glazing installer needs an opening built to a tolerance the framer has to be told about in advance. That choreography is planned, not improvised.
Where Projects Unravel
One trade running late compresses everyone behind it. We build float into the programme around the items with the longest lead times.
Quality Standards In Writing
Tolerances, finishes and benchmark samples are agreed before work starts. When expectations are written down, disputes become rare and rework becomes rarer.
Protecting The Investment
Completed work is covered, access is restricted and cleaning is scheduled. It is unglamorous, and it is the difference between a handover that feels new and one that feels used.
