Trusted Fire And Insurance Rebuilds Near You
Fire and insurance rebuilds ask more of a contractor than ordinary remodeling: documentation, scope discipline and a family who needs their home back. H&A My Design is a licensed design-build general contractor with over 20 years of family-run experience. Serving Southern California and the surrounding areas.
Licensed & bonded California general contractor — CSLB #999603. One team from assessment to final inspection.
What Fire And Insurance Rebuilds Involve
A damaged house is a construction problem and a paperwork problem at the same time. Both have to be handled properly, and the paperwork usually decides how well the construction goes.
Damage We Rebuild After
Different causes leave different damage, but the rebuild process follows the same discipline.
- Fire, smoke and heat damage
- Water damage from burst pipes or roof failure
- Storm and wind damage
- Structural damage from settlement or impact
- Mould and moisture remediation follow-on work
The Two Tracks
Fire and insurance rebuilds run on two parallel tracks that have to stay aligned, or the project stalls halfway.
The Claim
Scope, photographs, measurements and line-item estimates, kept in a form your adjuster can work with.
The Build
Demolition, structure, systems and finishes, permitted and inspected the same as any other project.
Rebuild Services After Damage
From the first assessment through to the finished, inspected house.
Damage Assessment
A documented walkthrough of what is damaged, what is salvageable and what must be replaced.
Scope & Estimate
A line-item scope written so your insurer can review it without guesswork.
Demolition & Clean-Up
Damaged material removed safely, with containment where it is needed.
Structural Repair
Framing, roofing and foundations repaired to current code with engineering where required.
Systems Replacement
Electrical, plumbing and HVAC renewed where heat, smoke or water reached them.
Full Restoration
Finishes, cabinetry, flooring and paint rebuilt so the house is genuinely finished.
How A Rebuild Runs
Six stages, with documentation kept current at every one of them.
Assessment
We walk the property, photograph everything and record the extent of the damage.
Scope & Documentation
A detailed written scope prepared for your insurer, with measurements and photos.
Approval
We answer questions from the adjuster and adjust scope as items are agreed.
Permits
Plans and permits filed where structural or system work requires them.
Rebuild
Demolition, structure, systems and finishes, inspected at each stage.
Handover
Final inspection, punch list and the documentation you need to close the claim.
What Makes A Rebuild Go Smoothly
Fire and insurance rebuilds succeed or stall on these points more than on construction skill.
Documentation from day one
Photographs and measurements taken before anything is moved protect your claim.
A scope your insurer can read
Line-item detail reduces back-and-forth and shortens the approval stage considerably.
Hidden damage found early
Smoke and water travel further than they appear to. We look before we price.
Code upgrades identified
Rebuilt work must meet current code, which sometimes exceeds what existed before.
One point of contact
You call one person for both the build and the paperwork, not three different trades.
How We Work Alongside Your Claim
We are contractors, not public adjusters or attorneys. What we provide is accurate, documented construction information so your claim is decided on facts.
What We Provide
Photographs, measurements, a written line-item scope and clear pricing, supplied in the format your adjuster asks for. Where items are disputed, we explain the construction reasoning behind them.
Supplements
When concealed damage appears during demolition, we document it immediately and submit it rather than absorbing it quietly or stopping work.
What You Control
You choose your contractor. Your insurer may suggest a preferred vendor, but the decision is yours. The California Department of Insurance publishes guidance on homeowner rights after a loss.
Upgrades
Many families take the opportunity to improve layout or finishes while rebuilding. Those costs sit outside the claim, and we keep them separated clearly.
Rebuilding While Life Carries On
The construction is only part of it. Fire and insurance rebuilds happen to families in temporary housing who want a straight answer about when they can go home.
A Schedule You Can Plan Around
You get a written programme with milestones, and updates when something moves. Guessing is worse than bad news, so we do not guess.
Partial Damage
Where only part of the house is affected, we contain the work area, protect the rest and, where it is safe, keep you living at home.
Matching What Was There
Discontinued tile, flooring and cabinetry are a routine problem. We find the closest match or propose a sensible alternative rather than leaving a patchwork.
Finishing Properly
A rebuild is finished when it looks like a home again, not when the structure passes. See home interior remodeling for how we handle finishes.
How We Rebuild
Structural and framing stages from our renovation work, built to the same standard we apply to rebuilds.
Talk To Someone About Your Rebuild
If your home has been damaged, call us before the scope is settled. We will assess the damage, document it properly and explain what rebuilding it actually involves.
Rebuild Questions
Do I have to use the contractor my insurer suggests?
No. In California you choose your own licensed contractor. Your insurer may recommend one, but the decision belongs to you.
Do you work directly with adjusters?
Yes. We provide documentation, measurements and line-item scope, and we answer the adjuster’s construction questions directly so you are not caught in the middle.
What if more damage is found during demolition?
It is common with smoke and water. We photograph it, document it and submit a supplement rather than proceeding without approval.
Will the rebuild meet current code?
Yes. Rebuilt work is permitted and inspected to current code, which occasionally means upgrades beyond what was there before.
Can I improve the house while rebuilding?
Many families do. Upgrades are quoted and invoiced separately from the insured scope so the claim stays clean.
How long does a rebuild take?
It depends on the damage and on how quickly scope is approved. You receive a written schedule once the scope is agreed.
Where do you work?
Throughout Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Westlake, Pasadena, Glendale, Culver City, the South Bay, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County, Thousand Oaks, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Burbank, Granada Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda and the surrounding areas.

What To Do In The First Days After Damage
The decisions made in the first week shape how fire and insurance rebuilds go for the following months. None of them are complicated, but the order matters.
Safety And Security First
Do not re-enter until the fire department or a qualified professional says the structure is safe. Once it is, the property needs boarding up, covering and securing so weather and trespass do not add to the loss.
Emergency Mitigation
Most policies require you to prevent further damage. Tarping a roof or extracting water is expected, and those costs are normally recoverable.
Document Before You Clear
Photograph and video everything before anything is thrown away, including inside cupboards and closets. A record made now is worth more than any argument made later.
Keep Every Receipt
Temporary housing, meals and emergency work are often covered. Keep the paperwork from day one rather than reconstructing it afterwards.
Get An Independent Scope
Having a licensed contractor assess the damage early gives you a construction-based scope to compare against the insurer’s estimate, which is where most fire and insurance rebuilds are won or lost.
