Expert Home Interior Remodeling Near You
Home interior remodeling carries flooring, doors, trim, lighting and finishes consistently through the whole house, so it reads as one home rather than a series of projects. H&A My Design is a licensed design-build general contractor, family-owned for more than 20 years. Serving Southern California and the surrounding areas.
Licensed & bonded California general contractor — CSLB #999603. Finishes selected in our Canoga Park showroom.
What Home Interior Remodeling Covers
Interior remodeling is what happens between the structure and the furniture: the surfaces you touch every day. Done room by room over years it rarely looks coherent. Done as one project, it transforms how a house feels without moving a single wall.
Consistency Is The Point
One flooring material running through the main rooms, one door style, one trim profile and one paint palette do more for a house than any single expensive feature.
Where To Change Material
Bathrooms and laundry rooms can sensibly differ. Changing flooring at every doorway is what makes older homes feel piecemeal.
Transitions
Where materials must meet, the detail is planned so thresholds are flush and clean rather than covered with a strip.
What Is Usually Included
A full interior project generally covers the same list, scoped to your budget and priorities.
- Flooring throughout the main living areas
- Interior doors, casing, baseboards and hardware
- Lighting, switches and outlets brought up to code
- Stairs, railings and built-in cabinetry
- Paint, ceilings and any texture removal

Details That Decide An Interior Remodel
Interior work is judged entirely on finish quality. These are the details that show.
Level floors before flooring
Substrates flattened first, because no flooring hides an uneven floor for long.
Consistent reveals
Casing, baseboards and door gaps kept uniform so nothing looks improvised.
Lighting layout
Fittings spaced deliberately and circuited so rooms can be bright or soft.
Paint preparation
Filling, sanding and priming, which is where a good paint job is actually made.
Dust control
Sealed zones and daily clean-up, because interior work spreads dust fastest.
Choosing Interior Materials That Last
Interior materials are chosen for how they wear, not just how they look on a sample board. These are the trade-offs we talk through in the showroom.
Flooring
Engineered wood gives warmth and can be refinished; porcelain tile is almost indestructible; quality luxury vinyl handles pets and children. Each suits a different household.
Doors And Trim
Solid-core interior doors feel and sound better than hollow ones, and cost surprisingly little more across a house.
One Profile Throughout
Choosing a single casing and baseboard profile for the whole house is the cheapest way to make an interior feel designed.
Paint And Ceilings
Removing textured ceilings and painting in a consistent palette lifts every room. Older ceilings should be tested before removal begins.
Hardware And Lighting
Handles, hinges, switch plates and fittings are the details people touch daily. Keeping them consistent is what ties an interior together.
Interior Remodeling While You Live There
Interior work is less invasive than structural remodeling, but it touches every room. Planning the sequence keeps daily life workable.
Working In Zones
We complete one half of the house before starting the other, so there is always somewhere clean to sleep and eat.
Furniture And Belongings
We agree in advance what is moved, what is stored and what is wrapped in place, and we do that work rather than leaving it to you.
Dust And Air Quality
Sanding and ceiling removal are the dustiest stages. Sealed barriers, filtration and daily cleaning keep the rest of the house usable.
Realistic Scheduling
Flooring and paint need drying and curing time. We build that into the schedule rather than rushing finishes that then fail.
Interiors We Have Remodeled

Home Interior Remodeling Questions
Do I need permits for interior remodeling?
Finishes alone usually do not require permits. Electrical changes, new openings or structural work do, and we file them.
Can you do the whole house at once?
Yes, and it is usually cheaper per room. We can also phase the work by zone if you are living there throughout.
Should flooring run through every room?
Through the main living areas, yes. Bathrooms and laundry rooms can sensibly use a different material.
Can you remove popcorn ceilings?
Yes. Older ceilings should be tested first, and we handle the process with proper containment.
How long does interior remodeling take?
It depends on the size of the house and the scope. Flooring and paint need curing time, which we build into the schedule.
Should every room use the same flooring?
Running one floor through the main living areas makes a house feel larger and calmer, and it removes awkward transition strips. Bedrooms and bathrooms are the usual exceptions, where comfort and water resistance matter more than continuity.
How do you keep an interior scheme from dating quickly?
We keep the expensive, permanent elements restrained and let paint, textiles and lighting carry the personality, because those are the pieces you can change cheaply in ten years.
Where do you work?
Throughout Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Westlake, Pasadena, Glendale, Culver City, the South Bay, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County, Thousand Oaks, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Burbank, Granada Hills, Canoga Park, Reseda and the surrounding areas.

Planning Home Interior Remodeling Room By Room
A successful interior project is really a sequence of decisions made once and applied everywhere. Home interior remodeling works best when the palette is set before any room begins.
Set The Palette First
Flooring, trim profile, door style, hardware finish and paint colours are chosen once for the whole house. Every room then follows the same rules, which is what makes home interior remodeling look coherent.
Decide What Stays
Not everything needs replacing. Solid doors can be repainted, good floors refinished and sound cabinetry refronted. We tell you honestly what is worth keeping.
Where To Spend
Spend on surfaces you touch daily and on anything requiring demolition later. Save on items that are easy to change in five years.
Order Of Rooms
We usually start at the far end of the house and work toward the entry, so finished rooms are not used as a route for materials and dust.
One Trade At A Time
Flooring, then trim, then paint, then hardware. Interleaving them causes damage and rework, so the sequence is held even when it feels slower.
